"What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?"

Luke 15:4 KJV

"Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it?"

The Principle of Hide and Seek

From the very beginning of time, men had the very disposition to hide from the truth. In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were instructed to eat of all the fruits in the garden. They enjoyed a life close to as perfect as any have ever lived. God told them they were not to eat of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Yet, upon the prompting of the serpent, Adam and Eve sinned against God and partook of the fruit that was on that tree. It was then that their eyes were opened, and they realized they were naked and in need. This was the first sin committed by humanity. After, God came to talk to them in the cool of the day, he found them hiding. They then were banished and had to live a life of pain, hardship, and work for the rest of their lives.

In this story, we see the principles emerge that come relevant to us today.

God teaches us that there are things in this world that we are to leave alone.

Just like the serpent in the garden of Eden, 1 Peter 5:8 tells us that "...your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"

Human nature seeks to please the flesh giving into temptation of the devil. When we sin it causes us to get disconnected in our relationship with God.

BUT, WE HAVE HOPE!

Just as God came seeking for Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden on that day, Luke 19:10 says, "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost." So, there is always hope in the tug between our desires and God's will. If we stop hiding and seek the Lord, we will find Him.

"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

And I will be found of you, saith the Lord: and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the Lord; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive."

Jeremiah 29:13-14
