Jesus Needs a Bucket!

John 4:1-15, and John 4:28-30.

"Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw".... "The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he"....

Key Points:

  • "What is a bucket? A bucket—typically a cylindrical vessel for catching, holding, or carrying liquids or solids".

  • "Jesus needs a bucket". He wants you.

  • "Jesus is a disciple maker. Jesus wasn’t interested in just having people who believed He existed... Jesus wasn’t interested in just having people who could say, “I believe in Jesus.” Jesus makes disciples".

"A disciple is somebody who doesn’t just believe what Jesus says —a disciple follows what Jesus says".

  • "There are people who believe Jesus is Lord but have never allowed Jesus to become Lord of their life. There are people who have come to church but haven’t become disciples. There are people who have received the Holy Ghost but still need to be taught how to walk in the Spirit".

  • "Salvation isn’t the end of the journey. It’s the beginning of becoming a disciple".

  • "Jesus makes disciples who eventually become disciple makers. He doesn’t just gather people around Himself. He develops people.... He takes people nobody else would choose and gives them a purpose. Jesus doesn’t just ask, Who will come to church?

  • Jesus asks, Who will follow ME?".

  • "There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water.... He didn’t accidentally end up at that well. He didn’t accidentally sit down at the well. And she didn’t accidentally show up at that well. This was a divine appointment disguised as an ordinary day".

  • "Most people didn’t draw water at noon. You would go early in the morning. You went when it was cool. You went in the evening when the heat of the day had passed. But she comes at noon".

  • "Why? Sometimes when you’re carrying shame, you change your schedule so you don’t have to face people. Sometimes you would rather fight the heat than face the crowd.

  • She thought she was going to the well to get water. She didn’t know she was walking into an appointment with God".

  • "He’s looking for somebody who is willing, who is available. He’s looking for somebody who will say, "Lord, I’ll be the bucket." Because there are thirsty people all around us. There are lost people in our community. There are lost people at your job. There are lost people at the grocery store. There are lost people living down the street. There are people who are thirsty for something they don’t even know how to name. And Jesus has living water. But Jesus needs a bucket".

  • "We can come to church Sunday after Sunday with our spiritual buckets... And God fills us. But if all we ever do is bring our buckets back to church to get filled again— what is the point? A bucket wasn’t designed just to be filled. A bucket is designed to carry something somewhere. And somebody in your world is thirsty. Somebody needs what God has put in you".

  • John 4:28-30 KJVS

    • "The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ? Then they went out of the city, and came unto him".

    • "Notice she left her water pot—bucket— This whole sermon has been about Jesus needing a bucket. Now we find she left her bucket. Why was this important enough to record in scripture?".

    • "Of all the things to record, it's interesting that John would record that she left her water pot! In the context of this message, I believe the word is saying. She left her physical bucket, and she became the bucket. She had an encounter with Jesus. He offered her living water, and this filled her spiritual bucket. This bucket was so full that she had to go pour some of it out. She went back to the city and started telling everyone, Come and see!".

  • "Jesus is still looking for someone to carry his message. Jesus needs a bucket. If you came to this service this morning empty. Longing... hurting. Jesus wants to heal and fill you today".

Jesus is just a mention of his name away!

"Each size church all have their own personality. A large church is not just a larger version of a small church. It's a totally different church in organization, in structure, and in mentality. Major
