Watch the Watch
Pastor Justin Wells
1 Peter 5:1-8

Key points:
In older times, watches were not a common commodity. People built their lives and survived based on seasons, position of the sun, or moon. With the emergence of the watch, schedules altered tremendously. Everything sped up and life is built for many people based on watching the clock instead of enjoying the tranquility of life.
Paul admonished the Christian church to "Wake up out of sleep." He understood that while it is good to take life as it comes, we must also be vigilant to be about the Masters business. Peter instructed us to "Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour."
The enemy wants nothing more than for us to be spiritually in slumber as the time of the second coming of Jesus Christ draws closer. If he can keep us focused on being sleepy instead of redeeming the time, we will not be able to accomplish the full will of God for our lives. Individuals who have not encountered God and still need to be saved have only one avenue through which they can hear the truth of the Gospel and that is the church. We have the responsibility to watch our watches and realize that the end times are upon us.
Understanding this, there are two things that we need to prioritize. Firstly, we must prioritize our personal relationship with Jesus. Our pastor admonished us to make sure to get back in the book and make our calling and election sure before the clock stops ticking. Secondly, we must take our relationship and do our best to share Jesus with others. We must watch our watch and take advantage of the short window of time that we have here on the earth, so that we can make a lasting impact in the Kingdom of God.
Better get back in the Book!
